Cheesy Baked Italian Meatballs
These Cheesy Baked Italian Meatballs are full of flavour and topped with gooey cheese, best of all they’re made in one dish. They make a great appetizer or main dish served with pasta or in a sub.
Ingredients
- 500 g minced beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 tbs BBQ sauce
- 1 tbs dried oregano or any Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 700 ml arrabbiata sauce
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). In a bowl, mix minced meat, breadcrumbs, egg, BBQ Sauce, Minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Form into meatballs.
- Place shallow casserole dish (or oven proof pan) on cook top and add olive oil and place meatballs in.
- Once meatballs have browned lightly on all sides pour arrabbiata into dish
- Bake for 25 minutes until cooked through with lid on (Use alfoil on top if you don’t have a lid).
- Removed from oven and add cheese on top. Place back into oven until cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
Notes
Any minced meat works well in this dish. These meatballs can be made ahead and frozen.

Use dairy-free cheese alternatives.
